About Ann Marie Hodgert

My mother was an animal rescue person so I came by my love of animals at an early age. We always had kittens, dogs, rabbits, or some other animal at our place. My mother nursed a dog through distemper after she found it trying to survive by eating frozen oatmeal off a garbage pile. She rescued a large variety of animals. Injured animals just seemed to show up at our place frequently in boxes placed on our front veranda. My mother had me eyedropper feeding bunnies after their mother was killed by a pack of dogs. At 3 she came out of a store to find me with a skunk in my arms. I apparently was annoyed that she kept telling me to put it down and back away. I thought it was a “pretty kitty.”

In high school I rode with the Canadian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and realized just how cruel people could be to animals. I volunteered with shelters, and found out that I was a lousy foster parent. I kept keeping the animals I would foster. I currently have six rescues. Five came from rescue shelters and one just showed up cold and hungry and moved in.

I am the only Certified Feline Mobile Master Groomer in the area. I am also a certified canine groomer. After numerous years of working for another grooming company I went out on my own. My job is to help you take great care of your cats and dogs. I love pets, so I will treat your pet like they were mine, only better. I use environmentally friendly biodegradable shampoos. My van is self contained and has inverters to supplement my power so I don’t run a noisy generator like a lot of groomers have to. My goal is to make the whole grooming process as convenient for you and good for your pet. I just want to help you take great care of your pet.

Formal Training and Seminars

I learned and did some grooming during my time with the CSPCA. I spent time with any experienced groomer who would let me ride and train with them.

I also watch numerous online video training seminars and presentations. Some of these are wonderful and informative and other are designed to sell you things. National Cat Grooming Institute of America does a lot of free training and presentations. I usually miss the originals, but can catch the rebroadcast versions. I also read Groomer to Groomer cover to cover every month. Grooming Business has had great information, but unfortunately last year, Pet Business bought them out and the volume for groomers has dropped drastically. I have also found that there is a lot of information out there, you just have to look for it. My Dad always said “a day of your life that you don’t learn something, is a day of your life that is wasted.” I have never had a day yet where I did not learn something.
